In a statement released Sunday, the CDC warned that although the affected products have been recalled, some may still be in consumers’ homes.
The outbreak stems from Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, a dangerous strain that can cause severe symptoms such as stomach cramps, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. While most individuals recover within a week, the CDC noted that some cases can escalate to life-threatening kidney complications.
