Houston, TX – An 80-year-old military veteran has died after an alleged physical attack over a parking space outside a Houston grocery store, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

Earl Hollins was reportedly assaulted on Friday in the parking lot of a Food Town grocery store during an argument with Anthony Ray Boyce, 57. After the altercation, Boyce allegedly drove away in Hollins’ car, HCSO officials said.

Hollins sustained severe head trauma during the incident, which left him in a coma. His family confirmed to me, that he was not expected to recover. Hollins was pronounced dead on Dec. 7 at a local hospital.

“What he [did], it wasn’t right. It wasn’t human,” Hollins’ niece, Elma Hollins-Washington, told media. The family expressed shock and disbelief at the circumstances of the incident.
“I said, ‘My god, over a parking spot. You’re going to injure my uncle, and now, finally, he’s dead, and it was over a parking spot,’” Hollins-Washington shared. “You took something great from us, something that we will never get over.”

The HCSO is continuing its investigation into the confrontation, including reports that the two men may have known each other prior to the altercation.
“Someone was saying that he knew the guy because they always used to be around Food Town,” Hollins-Washington added, suggesting a possible connection between the individuals.

Anthony Ray Boyce is currently being held in the Harris County Jail on a $100,000 bond. He is charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury, according to HCSO records.
Detectives are set to meet with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether the charges against Boyce will be upgraded following Hollins’ death.
