In a devastating incident on Thursday, a rural highway in Manitoba, Canada became the site of a collision between a bus carrying mostly seniors and a semi-trailer truck. According to local police, this horrific accident resulted in the loss of 15 lives and left 10 others injured.
The bus, which was transporting 25 individuals at the time of the crash, was struck by the large truck. Rob Hill, commanding officer of the Manitoba Royal Canadian Mounted Police, confirmed that authorities swiftly mobilized all available resources to the area to respond to the emergency.
Responding to the scene were ambulance helicopters from Winnipeg and Regina, providing critical assistance in transporting the injured individuals to a local hospital for immediate medical attention.
Distressing television footage captured the aftermath of the collision, revealing a smoldering bus lying on the ground near the highway. A heavily damaged transport truck with a disabled engine remained stationary on the road. The surrounding area was strewn with debris, including shattered glass, a detached bumper, and what appeared to be a walker. Blue and yellow tarps were deployed across the scene, possibly to aid in the investigation and recovery efforts.

Upon learning of the tragedy, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his deep condolences via Twitter. He wrote, “The news from Carberry, Manitoba, is incredibly tragic. I’m sending my deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones today, and I’m keeping the injured in my thoughts. I cannot imagine the pain those affected are feeling – but Canadians are here for you.”
Carberry, a town located approximately 100 miles west of Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba, was the unfortunate site of this accident. The incident bears a grim resemblance to a similar tragedy in 2018 when a bus crash in the neighboring province of Saskatchewan claimed the lives of 16 individuals, all members of the Humboldt Broncos minor league hockey team.
