A devastating incident occurred north of Salem, Oregon, resulting in the loss of three lives after a freight train collided with a 2002 Honda attempting to cross the railway tracks. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the vehicle, carrying four people at the time of the accident, was struck by the oncoming freight train on Wednesday. Based on their preliminary investigation, authorities suspect that the driver failed to obey a traffic control device before the collision occurred.
Regrettably, three out of the four occupants in the Honda lost their lives in the tragic accident, as reported by the sheriff’s office. The identities of the deceased were released as Catarino Hernandez Guzman, aged 31, who was the driver, Francisco Lopez, aged 33, and Jesus Carrera Avendano, aged 22. The lone survivor among the passengers was identified as Anselmo Caballero Herrera, aged 26.
The sheriff’s office clarified that the farm road leading to the railway crossing was controlled by stop signs. However, the investigation indicated that the Honda failed to adhere to these traffic control measures, leading to the devastating crash. There is no evidence to suggest that alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, the relatives of those who lost their lives expressed their desire not to engage with the media, seeking privacy during this difficult time.

Authorities have taken this opportunity to remind the public of the utmost importance of taking precautions when approaching railroad crossings. Their advice includes being vigilant, prepared to stop until it is safe to proceed, and abiding by all warning signals and signs. They emphasize the need to carefully assess the space available on the other side of the tracks before attempting to cross. Additionally, they urge drivers never to race against an approaching train.
