Dr. Katharine Grawe, also known as “Doctor Roxy” on TikTok, has had her medical license permanently revoked by the State Medical Board of Ohio. The board made the decision after accusing her of botching the surgeries of three patients. Along with the license revocation, Dr. Grawe has been fined $4,500 for failing to meet the standard of care.

Dr. Grawe had gained a significant following on TikTok, with over 825,000 followers and 14.6 million likes on her posts. However, she will no longer be able to practice medicine and surgery in the state of Ohio. The State Medical Board of Ohio stated that it is their responsibility to protect the public by regulating licensed medical practitioners. They thoroughly reviewed the evidence presented before making their formal decision.

During the hearing, Dr. Grawe addressed the board, mentioning that some of her videos were intended to bring a smile to people’s faces in a world that can often be negative and challenging. However, her explanation did not sway the board’s decision.

Dr. Jonathan Feibel, a board member, expressed his belief that Dr. Grawe had permanently changed the lives of at least three individuals. This decision comes after Dr. Grawe’s license was initially suspended seven months ago on November 18. The suspension order stated that there was clear and convincing evidence of her violation of regulations.

The State Medical Board of Ohio highlighted three specific cases where Dr. Grawe provided inappropriate treatment to her patients at Roxy Plastic Surgery in Powell, Ohio. These incidents occurred between May 2020 and March 2022 and resulted in severe complications for the affected individuals. In one instance, Dr. Grawe streamed part of a procedure on social media while neglecting crucial aspects of patient care. This patient later experienced serious complications and required an extended hospital stay to recover.

Dr. Grawe has the option to appeal the board’s decision, but her TikTok and Instagram accounts have since been made private. The former patient, Mary Jenkins, who previously filed a lawsuit against Dr. Grawe in 2019, praised the board’s ruling. Jenkins had won a $358,000 jury verdict in 2016, citing negligence in Dr. Grawe’s failure to diagnose and treat complications related to her breast reconstruction surgery.
