Ryan Mallett NFL and Arkansas Quarterback Pronounced Dead at 35

Former NFL quarterback Ryan Mallett, known for his time with teams like the New England Patriots, Houston Texans, and Baltimore Ravens, has tragically passed away at the age of 35 in what appears to be a drowning incident off the coast of Florida. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office in Florida reported that the incident occurred on Tuesday when first responders were called to the beach in Destin. Witnesses mentioned that a group of individuals, including Mallett, had been struggling to return to the shore near the second sandbar. Regrettably, Mallett went under the water and was unresponsive when lifeguards pulled him out. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, he was later pronounced dead at the Destin Emergency Room.

Ryan Mallett had recently embarked on a coaching career as the head football coach at White Hall High School in Arkansas. The news of his passing left the White Hall School District deeply saddened. In a statement, they expressed their grief and requested prayers for Mallett’s family, team, students, fellow coaches, and staff.

The Arkansas Razorbacks football program, where Mallett achieved fame during his college years, was also shocked and mournful over the loss of their former star player. The Razorbacks emphasized Mallett’s outstanding talent, undeniable charisma, and his significant contributions to the program. Their thoughts and condolences were extended to Mallett’s mother Debbie and his extended family.

Mallett’s professional football journey began with the New England Patriots, where he played as a backup quarterback for two seasons behind the legendary Tom Brady. He later went on to play for the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens, leaving an impact on his teammates and coaches. The Patriots expressed their deep sadness and offered their condolences to the Mallett family, former teammates, and everyone affected by the loss. The Ravens, who signed Mallett as a backup to Joe Flacco, remembered him for his infectious personality, charisma, and the joy he brought to the team.

Mallett’s college career at the University of Arkansas showcased his exceptional skills and solidified his reputation as an accomplished quarterback. He had impressive seasons in 2009 and 2010, leading the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in passing yards and touchdowns during both years. Mallett’s achievements earned him All-SEC second-team honors, placing him behind notable quarterbacks like Tim Tebow and Cam Newton, who went on to win the Heisman Trophy. Mallett’s remarkable performances earned him recognition as a Heisman finalist in 2010, finishing seventh in the voting.
