The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) has identified the victim as 48-year-old Octavia Redmond, who had served as a letter carrier for five years. In a statement released on Friday, the NALC expressed profound sorrow over Redmond’s death. “NALC is devastated by the murder of our colleague, Octavia Redmond, from Chicago, IL Branch 11,” the statement read. “Sister Redmond was shot multiple times while on her route and was transported to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. In response to the incident, the NALC voiced their outrage, condemning the increasing violence against postal workers. “We are appalled by this senseless act of violence that claimed an innocent life,” the NALC statement said. “Violent crime against letter carriers has been on the rise, and it is now tragically common for them to be targeted and assaulted. This is unacceptable, and urgent action is needed. Every American deserves to work without fear and return safely to their families. We will continue to advocate for a safer environment for all letter carriers.”
