At 7:30 pm on Thursday, January 23rd, 2022, a 39-yr. old pizza delivery driver was attacked by a 35-yr. old carjacker with a gun asking him for his car.
The pizza driver was delivering food on the 3300 block of H Street in Kensington and then suddenly saw the carjacker pointing a gun at him, demanding him to get out of his car.
The pizza delivery driver fought back in order to protect himself, brought out his licensed gun, and started shooting the carjacker.
Eric Howard, one of Kensington’s residents, said: “I was remodeling my kitchen and talking to my son, as he was opening the door and about to come out from the door, we heard the shots.”
The police reported that the pizza delivery driver was not hurt. The carjacker was taken to Temple University Hospital via a private vehicle and is now in critical condition.
The police said the carjacker would be in the hospital as a prisoner, and the investigation continued as there were no further details on his case.
The pizza delivery driver probably has his licensed gun because there have been several carjacking incidents in recent weeks.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, 404 and 757 cars were stolen in 2020 and 2021.
One of the carjacking incidents happened to a 60-yr. old man that was shot by a 16-yr. old male during an attempt to steal his car in West Mount Airy. Another carjacking happened to U.S. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, whose car was stolen at a gunpoint in December 2021.
