The wife of California governor Gavin Newsom, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, became visibly uncomfortable when she was asked to fake an orgasm in court while testifying in the trial of Harvey Weinstein.
Defense attorney Mark Werksman asked the first lady to show how she “indicated her pleasure” during a 2005 incident at the Peninsula hotel in Beverly Hills where she alleges Weinstein raped her.
Newsom refused to do it because the situation was not like When Harry Met Sally.
The governor’s wife testified on Monday, describing how a supposed business meeting with Weinstein went haywire when he changed out of his robe into a suit and began to “manipulate” and “threaten” her.
She further alleged that Weinstein penetrated her with his fingers and then his “deformed penis.”
She also stated that she made “pleasure noises” and put her hand on his penis to get him to ejaculate.
She was hoping that doing so would get it over with sooner.
Despite the rape, Newsom continued to interact with Weinstein. She sent him several emails soliciting his support for her husband’s mayoral campaign in San Francisco. She also thanked him for getting her and her husband on an Oscar party guest list.
When asked about her continued correspondence, Newsom claimed she was “just hustling.”
She also claimed that she did not want to have sex with Weinstein. Newsom made it clear through her voice and body that she didn’t want it.
Newsom left the courtroom clutching herself and sobbing loudly.
Weinstein was originally facing two counts of forcible rape and two counts of oral copulation. The initial charges have been dropped, but the former film producer still faces seven remaining counts brought by Newsom and three other women who testified.
He is currently serving a 23-year sentence for rape and assault. If convicted on all counts, he will be looking at a sentence of 65 years to life in prison.
