Homicide detectives in Maywood, Illinois, have launched an investigation into the tragic death of Myrtle Brown, 73, the mother of former NFL player Sergio Brown, 35. Both mother and son were reported missing from their Chicago suburb residence, prompting a frantic search effort.

Authorities discovered Myrtle Brown in critical condition near a creek behind her home on Saturday, during the search for her and Sergio. Tragically, she was pronounced dead later. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined her cause of death as “multiple injuries due to assault,” classifying it as a homicide.

Concerned family members had reported the disappearance of both individuals earlier on Saturday after they were unable to locate or contact them. Maywood police initiated a search operation, leading to the discovery of Myrtle Brown during a subsequent search.

While the statement issued by the police characterized the ongoing investigation as a homicide case, it did not provide details on the evidence or circumstances leading to this determination. Authorities are currently focused on locating Sergio Brown, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
