An extensive response by the police and SWAT teams resulted in the closure of a section of Como Avenue SE in Minneapolis on Sunday afternoon.

Starting around 3 p.m., Weeks Avenue SE near 27th Avenue SE was cordoned off due to an ongoing investigation into shots fired, according to an alert issued by the University of Minnesota Police Department. The situation appeared to de-escalate shortly after 5 p.m., and by 5:45 p.m., the University of Minnesota police confirmed that the matter had been resolved.

According to a statement from the Minneapolis police, they received a report of shots being fired and subsequently discovered that a man in his 30s was sporadically discharging a firearm through the windows of his residence. As a safety measure, officers established a perimeter and initiated negotiations with the individual, who eventually surrendered.

The man, who was the sole occupant of the residence, did not provoke any gunfire from the officers during the standoff. Following the incident, he was transported to the hospital for medical treatment and will face assault charges upon being booked into Hennepin County Jail.
