It was a scene no homeowner thought they would witness on their home security camera, but it happened to a Michigan couple. A home inspector in Oakland County, Michigan, was caught on a security camera masturbating with a Tickle Me Elmo doll while at a client’s home.
In April 2021, Kevin Wayne VanLuven of Clarkson was doing a home inspection in Oxford Township, according to the Royal Oak Tribune. He was in one of the client’s bedrooms when Jaida Dodson, one of the home’s owners, got a notification on her phone that someone was in the nursery.
The camera was in the nursery and when Dodson checked her camera alert, she saw VanLuven pick up the Elmo doll from the nursery floor and pleasure himself with the doll before returning it to the floor, the Royal Oak Tribune reported.
When asked about seeing the situation, Dodson told WDIV, “I just went blank. My husband was staring at me from across the room and was like what’s wrong and asked me repeatedly and I couldn’t even articulate what I was seeing.”
The couple immediately called police and then raced back home. Oakland County deputies arrived while VanLuven was still inspecting the house and confronted him, which he initially claimed he moved the doll to inspect an electrical outlet. However, after learning about the camera in the nursery he confessed.
According to The Smoking Gun, VanLuven “admitted to placing his penis in Elmo’s mouth, in the doll’s mouth” and “apologized and said he was ashamed.”
Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard added, “You don’t think anything can surprise you, and yet, the disgusting ability of some people still manages to surprise me on this.”
VanLuven was arrested and charged with aggravated indecent exposure and malicious destruction of property under $200. After a one-day trial in Oakland County, the jury convicted him on the aggravated indecent exposure charge, but acquitted him on the other charge, officials said.
VanLuven is set to be sentenced in December and faces up to two years in prison and a $2,000 fine, according to officials.
