In a highly publicized case in the British capital, Kevin Spacey, 64, was found not guilty of sexually assaulting four men, ending a monthlong legal battle that garnered significant media attention. The actor and all of his accusers testified during the proceedings. Upon hearing the jury’s verdict, Spacey was visibly emotional, wiping away tears.

The charges leveled against Spacey included sexual assault and pertained to allegations dating back two decades. Prosecutor Christine Agnew depicted Spacey, who was identified in court by his full name, Kevin Spacey Fowler, as a “sexual bully” who forcefully grabbed men by their crotch, deriving pleasure from making others feel powerless and uncomfortable.

During the trial, Spacey himself took the stand at London’s Southwark Crown Court, denying one of the men’s claims as “madness” and characterizing another alleged incident as a “clumsy pass.” He argued that any “romantic” touching with a third complainant was consensual.

According to the prosecution’s case, Spacey allegedly grabbed one man’s crotch in a manner akin to a cobra’s strike while serving as artistic director at London’s Old Vic Theatre in the mid-2000s, following a barrage of offensive comments.

An aspiring actor also testified about an alleged incident in the late 2000s, claiming he woke up to find Spacey performing a sex act on him. All four complainants in the case were granted lifelong anonymity under English law and, as such, cannot be named.

The charges spanned from 2004 to 2013, a period when Spacey held the position of artistic director at the Old Vic Theatre. He faced seven counts of sexual assault, one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, and one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity.

Throughout the trial, Spacey mentioned interactions with various famous personalities, citing examples like giving a ping pong table to Dame Judy Dench after working together on a movie and calling Elton John as a defense witness.

Following the verdicts, the prosecution expressed respect for the court’s decision, according to Britain’s Press Association, acknowledging that it is the jury’s responsibility to consider the charges.
