It sounds too bizarre to be true. But sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction. Malcolm MacDonald, 47, lost his penis due to a severe blood infection. The mechanic describes being mortified when his penis “just dropped off onto the floor,” after he suffered an infection in his perineum in 2010.
Doctors were able to manufacture a new penis for the Norfolk, England, father of two using a skin flap on his left arm. The penis was built on the arm area and was scheduled to be moved to the pubic area, but the operation stopped due to a lack of oxygen in the man’s blood.
This left him with an artificial phallus poking out of his forearm that would stay there for six years.
The second surgery, which was interrupted, was further delayed due to scheduling mix-ups, staff shortages and the pandemic.
Living with the phallic forearms was not easy for MacDonald.
“People ask me about it when they see me in the pub, and of course people make jokes. I get it. It’s not every day you see a man with a penis on his arm. Of course, I see the funny side. I have to. I don’t have any other option,” the man said.
MacDonald’s situation was so unusual, a documentary was even made about it. In ‘The Man with a Penis on His Arm’, MacDonald recalls helping an elderly lady retrieve an item from a high shelf in the supermarket and have the appendage fall out of his sleeve and nearly hit her in the head.
Fortunately, doctors were finally able to remedy the situation with a successful surgery that took a whopping nine hours. “The first thing I did was look down and I was like ‘Oh my days. They got it this time’,” MacDonald recalled when seeing the results. ‘’
The surgery required taking nerves and blood vessels from the arm and stitching them together in the pubic area to promote blood flow. Plastic surgeons were brought in to create a functioning urethra that allows for the passing of urine. Two tubes were installed so MacDonald can use a hand pump to give himself an erection.
Best of all, the penis is even better than MacDonald’s original one. It was customized to the man’s wishes with an extra two inches added for a total six inches in length.
MacDonald is happy with his new designer penis and was quoted as saying, “I feel like a real man again.” He is glad to leave that nightmare behind him.
