Delta Air Lines had to cancel a flight departing from Las Vegas on Monday after a distressing incident caused by the intense heatwave. Several passengers, as well as one crew member, fell ill due to the uncomfortable temperatures inside the aircraft while it was waiting for takeoff at Harry Reid International Airport. Flight 555, which was bound for Atlanta, faced a challenging situation that required the intervention of first responders.
Concerned about the health of the affected passengers and crew, some of whom had passed out, Delta took immediate action. The airline expressed deep regret for the unfortunate ordeal experienced by the customers on board Flight 555. Delta’s teams launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the excessively hot cabin and acknowledged the support and efforts of both their personnel and the first responders at the airport.
Customers who were scheduled to be on this flight were provided with alternate arrangements on other flights, and Delta issued a sincere apology for the distressing incident. The airline also offered compensatory measures to address the inconvenience and discomfort faced by the passengers during this unfortunate event.
A video of the incident was shared on social media by a passenger on the flight, depicting the severity of the situation. The footage showed an individual being transported on a stretcher due to heat-related illnesses. One passenger on the flight, Krista Garvin, a field producer for Fox News, described the experience as “INSANE” and revealed that several passengers fainted due to the excessive heat.
According to Garvin’s tweets, the flight had been initially delayed and, once boarding was allowed, the passengers were left sitting in the aircraft for nearly three hours in sweltering 111-degree weather before takeoff. The situation became so severe that the plane had to return to the gate as people were passing out.
