The family of Robert De Niro has confirmed the tragic passing of his 19-year-old grandson, Leandro Anthony De Niro-Rodriguez. Expressing deep distress, Robert De Niro issued a statement acknowledging the loss of his beloved grandson. He showcased gratitude for the condolences received and kindly requested privacy for the family to grieve the loss of Leo.
The cause of death has not been disclosed thus far.
As per the New York City Police Department, De Niro-Rodriguez was discovered unconscious at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Sunday at 55 Wall St. in lower Manhattan. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
The office of the chief medical examiner will determine the cause of death, but no spokesperson was available for immediate comment on Monday.
While the NYPD stated that De Niro-Rodriguez was 18 years old, a representative for Robert De Niro clarified that he was actually 19.
Drena De Niro, De Niro’s daughter and the mother of De Niro-Rodriguez, released a statement expressing immeasurable shock and sadness. She thanked everyone for the outpouring of love and support and requested privacy to process the inconsolable grief.
Drena De Niro posted a heartfelt tribute to her son on Instagram on Sunday evening, referring to him as her beautiful sweet angel. She conveyed her boundless love for him, stating that he had brought joy and real purity into her life. She expressed her desire to be with him and acknowledged that living without him would be a challenge. Drena pledged to carry on and spread the love and light that her son had made her feel as a mother. She emphasized his deep love and appreciation and lamented that love alone could not have saved him.
Numerous celebrities shared their condolences in the comments section of Drena De Niro’s post, offering their support and love during this difficult time.
Leandro Anthony De Niro-Rodriguez had shown promising talent as an actor, featuring in films such as “A Star Is Born” and “Cabaret Maxime,” according to an IMDB page.

In May, Robert De Niro, aged 79, had revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada that he had welcomed his seventh child.
