A flight that was on its way from Toronto to New York City had to return due to a worrisome “burnt electrical smell” detected in the cockpit earlier this month.
On February 3, Endeavor Air Flight 4826 left Toronto’s Pearson International Airport with a destination of JFK Airport in New York. However, during the flight, the crew declared an emergency due to encountering an odor.
The crew of the Bombardier twin-engine jet commenced investigating an odor after sparks and flames emerged from the captain’s windshield electrical heater control unit, as reported by The Transportation Safety Board of Canada. To guarantee their safety, they declared an emergency, put on oxygen masks, and requested a return to Toronto.
Thankfully, the 74 passengers and crew onboard arrived safely in Toronto as the aircraft landed without incident. The safety board indicated that turning off the windshield heat prevented further sparks or flames from occurring during flight.
