Two fatalities and a critical injury occurred during a drug investigation in southern Louisiana, as stated by authorities on Tuesday. In Ville Platte, a city located about 75 miles northwest of Baton Rouge, Deputy Marshal Barry Giglio was killed in a shooting at the scene on Monday night while assisting the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office in executing a search warrant at a suspected drug-related residence, according to the Louisiana State Police.
The incident also resulted in a man and a woman inside the house being shot and subsequently transported to hospitals. Sadly, the man passed away from his injuries, authorities confirmed.
Following the shooting, one person was taken into custody. However, the names of the suspect, the deceased victims, and further details regarding the incident were not immediately disclosed by the authorities.
Ville Platte Mayor Ryan Leday Williams expressed his condolences and emphasized the bravery and sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel every day. He acknowledged the ultimate sacrifice made by Deputy Marshal Giglio in service to his community, vowing never to forget his contribution.
