A tragic incident unfolded during a high school football game in Oklahoma, resulting in the loss of a 16-year-old boy’s life due to gunfire. The authorities have reported that the fatal shooting occurred on the visitor’s side of the stadium at Choctaw High School during the third quarter of the match against Del City High School. The Choctaw Police Department released an official statement providing details of the incident.

According to the police, the shooting was triggered by a dispute involving at least two adult men. This altercation escalated into gunfire, causing the unfortunate demise of the 16-year-old victim who was struck in the groin area. Notably, the victim was not enrolled in either the Choctaw or Del City school systems.

Tragically, multiple other individuals also suffered injuries as a result of the chaotic situation. A 42-year-old man was wounded in the chest but is now in stable condition after receiving treatment in the ICU. Another casualty was a young girl who sustained a gunshot wound to her thigh. Thankfully, she received medical attention, was treated, and subsequently discharged from the hospital. Two more girls, suspected to be students, incurred fractures in their wrists and a leg while attempting to leave the tumultuous scene. Specific ages of these injured individuals were not disclosed by the authorities.

The incident also involved an officer from the Del City Police Department discharging their firearm at the scene. This occurrence is being investigated as an officer-involved shooting by the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office. Two Del City police officers were present at the location to ensure security. Moreover, the Choctaw Police Department had deployed five officers as part of standard security measures for home games.

No suspects are currently in custody, though law enforcement possesses a description of a person of interest. Authorities managed to recover two firearms and eight rounds from the site of the incident.

In a united statement, David Reid, the Superintendent of Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools, and Rick Cobb, the Superintendent of Mid-Del Schools, expressed their condolences and support for those affected by the tragic events. They underlined the collaborative efforts between the school districts and the police in responding to the incident.

The Choctaw Police Department, along with the assistance of the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office and Del City investigators, is actively pursuing the investigation. The police urge individuals with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry.
