A 34-year-old man was charged on Monday with the murder of two men whose remains were discovered in suitcases in southwest England.
London’s Metropolitan Police stated that Yostin Andres Mosquera had been charged with the murders of Albert Alfonso, 61, and Paul Longworth, 71. Mosquera is scheduled to appear in a London court later on Monday.
The police revealed that the victims had been in a relationship and still lived together, and that the suspect had been staying with them in their west London apartment.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine commented, “The evidence gathered so far does not suggest there was a homophobic motive behind the killings.”
Valentine added, “I hope it will be of some reassurance that while inquiries are still ongoing and the investigation is at a relatively early stage, we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the two murders.”
The suspect was arrested at a train station in Bristol on Saturday, three days after body parts were gruesomely found in suitcases on the city’s Clifton Suspension Bridge.
Police officers responded to the iconic bridge around midnight on Wednesday, 10 minutes after receiving reports of a man acting suspiciously. However, the man, who had arrived by taxi, had already left the scene.
