A series of tragic incidents occurred over the weekend, resulting in multiple mass shootings across different locations in the United States. According to authorities, a total of 38 people were shot, with two of them losing their lives.

In downtown St. Louis, Missouri, around 1:45 am on Sunday, a shooting took place inside a building. Local television station KMOV reported that one minor was killed, and nine others sustained injuries. The identity of the deceased victim was not immediately disclosed, and no information regarding the condition of the wounded was released at that time.

Similarly, in Willowbrook, Illinois, at approximately 12:30 am on Sunday, another shooting occurred. Officials reported that 20 people were shot, resulting in one fatality. The identity of the deceased victim in Willowbrook was also not immediately known.

Emergency medical services transported half of the victims from the Willowbrook shooting to nearby hospitals, while others made their arrangements for medical treatment.

According to reports, the Willowbrook shooting transpired during a gathering commemorating Juneteenth, a holiday that marks the liberation of enslaved Black individuals after the American Civil War. However, details regarding a possible motive for the incident were not immediately available.

These incidents followed an earlier shooting that took place on Saturday in southern California, where eight people were wounded. The shooting occurred shortly after midnight at a pool party in Carson, located south of Los Angeles. The victims, ranging in age from 16 to 24, suffered injuries to various areas, including the head, back, and upper and lower body regions, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Additionally, law enforcement discovered a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound at the site of a car crash nearby.

As of Sunday morning, the Gun Violence Archive has reported over 305 mass shootings in the United States this year alone. The organization defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more individuals are injured or killed.

Given the alarming frequency of mass shootings in the country, many Americans have been urging substantial federal gun control measures. However, despite these calls, Congress has been unable to pass significant legislation on the matter.
