Regardless of your political stance, you will likely agree it is pretty strange that Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has summoned the police to arrest Jimmy Kimmel. Greene called the cops on Kimmel after he made a Will Smith joke.
Why Greene was so Offended
Greene took to Twitter to announce that she had reached out to Capitol Police to report Kimmel had incited violence against her. The Congresswoman embedded a video of Kimmel’s questionable comments made during his weeknight monologue.
Kimmel’s comments referred to Greene as a “klan mom” and noted how she is allegedly upset with conservative senators who stated they will vote in favor of affirming Ketanji Brown Jackson for a seat on the Supreme Court. Kimmel highlighted how Greene tweeted that Senators Romney, Collins, and Murkowski are in favor of pedophilia as they voted in favor of Jackson. Kimmel went on to ask the studio audience: where is Will Smith when “you really need him?”
Kimmel’s reference to Will Smith is an indication that he wanted the actor and rapper to slap Greene for her supposedly inexcusable comments. However, Greene interpreted the statement as a threat to her wellbeing. Greene tweeted out to ABC, stating the standup comedian’s monologue constituted a threat of violence against her.
Greene went on to tweet about how she formally filed a complaint with Capitol Police. Greene even went as far as adding the Capitol Police Twitter account to the bottom of the tweet to ensure they would see her statement pertaining to the matter.
Kimmel’s Response
Perhaps the most intriguing component of this odd story is how Kimmel responded. The comedian mocked Greene in his response on Twitter. Kimmel tweeted that he would like to report a joke to a police officer.
Judge Jackson went on to officially become Supreme Court Justice Jackson on Thursday. Jackson is the first black woman to hold a seat on the land’s highest court. Though Jackson faced fierce criticism during her confirmation hearings, she answered every question and earned the respect of enough Congress members to make it to the Supreme Court. As of Thursday night, there has not been an update as to whether Kimmel has received a visit from the Capitol Police.
