In a dramatic scene captured by police body cameras, a suspected bank robber, 27-year-old Tristan Heidl of Huron, Ohio, was apprehended in the act as he fell from the ceiling directly into a trash bin.

The incident unfolded around 2:12 a.m. on a Thursday when officers from the Huron Police Department responded to an alarm at the VacationLand Federal Credit Union located at 2402 University Drive East in Huron. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers heard strange noises emanating from the roof area above the drive-thru. Their suspicions were further piqued by the presence of a blue recycling bin oddly placed in the middle of the drive-thru lane, positioned directly below a roof access door.

Drawing their weapons, the officers cautiously approached the situation, anticipating the suspect’s exit attempt. When the suspect extended his legs through the access door, the officers swiftly moved in, ordering him to get on the ground.

Amid the commotion, the startled suspect lost his grip and plummeted from the ceiling, landing right into the recycling bin. The officers wasted no time in handcuffing him and bringing him out of the bin. Remarkably, the suspect, Heidl, emerged from the fall unscathed and surrendered without resistance.

Chief Terry Graham of the Huron Police Department revealed that Heidl had ingeniously used the recycling bin as a makeshift tool to reach the bank’s ceiling. The suspect admitted to being in a financial bind, but cooperated with the officers, truthfully answering their questions.

As a consequence of his actions, Heidl faced a slew of charges, including breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony, possession of criminal tools, also a fifth-degree felony, and safecracking, a fourth-degree felony as per Ohio law. If convicted, he could be sentenced to more than three years in prison and be subject to fines of up to $10,000.
