A suspect has been identified after an abandoned baby was found crying near a dumpster in Houston, police reported on Wednesday.
A 911 call was made early Sunday afternoon by someone who heard a baby crying near a dumpster at an apartment complex, according to Houston Police Department spokesperson Jodi Silva.
First responders discovered the infant in the dumpster area, Silva said. A bystander’s video captured first responders rescuing the baby and swaddling him in a blanket.
The newborn was taken to a local hospital and is believed to be in good health, Silva stated.
Child Protective Services has taken custody of the baby, she added. The duration the infant was left by the dumpster is still unknown.
Police have been investigating the incident, reviewing surveillance footage, and seeking witnesses to identify who abandoned the newborn, Silva said.
A suspect has now been identified, and the investigation is ongoing, according to Silva.
