An 87-year-old woman from Maine demonstrated her courage and compassion when she managed to fend off a teenage attacker and even offered him food, responding to his claim of being “awfully hungry.”
Marjorie Perkins recounted the incident that occurred on July 26 at 2 a.m. She woke up to find a young man standing over her bed, having discarded his shirt and pants, and threatening to harm her. In a moment of determination, she decided to fight back and protect herself. She quickly put on her shoes and used a chair to create a barrier between herself and the intruder. During the struggle, the intruder struck her on the cheek and forehead, but he eventually changed his approach and headed for the kitchen. There, he expressed his hunger to Marjorie.
In a remarkable display of compassion, Marjorie offered the young intruder a box of peanut butter and honey crackers, two protein drinks, and two tangerines to satisfy his hunger. Meanwhile, she managed to call 911 on her rotary phone and stayed on the line with the dispatcher while the intruder retrieved his pants and left the premises. He left behind a knife, shirt, shoes, and a water bottle containing alcohol.
Marjorie has gained widespread attention and acclaim for her bravery during the incident. Despite the scare, she still feels secure in the home where she has lived for 42 years. However, she expressed concern about the increasing crime rates in the area. According to her observations, crime seems to have worsened in recent years, and she believes that criminals no longer fear the consequences of their actions.
Law enforcement authorities swiftly located the teenager responsible for the break-in and charged him with burglary, criminal threatening, assault, and underage consumption of liquor. Due to his age, the authorities did not disclose his identity. They revealed that the teenager was residing a few blocks away from the victim’s home.
