On Wednesday, a hotel near the Mosel River in western Germany partially collapsed, resulting in one confirmed death and eight individuals trapped, according to police reports.
Authorities stated that 14 people were believed to be inside the hotel in the winemaking town of Kroev at the time of the collapse, which occurred late Tuesday evening.
While five people managed to escape unscathed, nine others were buried under the debris, police reported.
“This is an extremely challenging operation due to the damage, as emergency services can only enter the building with the utmost caution,” police noted in a statement.
By Wednesday morning, one fatality had been confirmed, although the body had not yet been recovered.
