The Detroit Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating an arson suspect responsible for burning four vehicles and damaging two others late last week.
On August 15, authorities released video footage of the incident, which took place at approximately 1:45 p.m. in a post office parking lot on Harper Avenue, near its intersection with Morang Avenue on the city’s east side.
The video shows a man in a hooded sweatshirt breaking the window of a white 2018 Chevy Traverse in the parking lot. He then pours an accelerant inside the vehicle and ignites it, causing an explosion that propels him backward into another car. The suspect falls to the ground before fleeing the scene.

“The suspect is described as a heavyset male,” the Detroit Police Department stated in an appeal published on Monday. “He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with a white shirt underneath and blue jeans. Six vehicles were damaged, and four were burned in this incident.”
Authorities are offering a $500 reward for information related to the case.
