Police responded to a report of a break-in at around 10:30 p.m., after receiving calls about “several subjects kicking in a front door,” according to a statement from the Bridgeton Police Department. Upon arrival, officers found Mosley, 51, fatally shot at the scene.

Authorities have detained an individual for questioning. This person had been treated for a gunshot wound at a hospital in Camden, but no further details have been released. As of Wednesday morning, no arrests or charges have been made, police said.

The incident is being investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the New Jersey State Police Major Crime Bureau, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Bridgeton Police Department Criminal Investigation Bureau. Investigators were seen at Mosley’s home throughout Wednesday.

Mosley began her career at the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office in 2006 as a paralegal specialist and was promoted to county detective in 2009. She served in several units, including the Special Victims Unit, the Community Justice Unit, and most recently, as the supervisor of the Professional Standards Unit.

Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae expressed her condolences, describing Mosley as a dedicated officer who served her community with “honor, dignity, and respect.” Webb-McRae added that Mosley was a “constant friend and role model” to those she worked with in law enforcement.

Bridgeton Chief of Police Michael Gaimari Sr. spoke of his personal connection to Mosley, stating, “Always loved and admired, so devastating of a loss. Justice will be served and you will always be in our thoughts and prayers.”

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy also expressed his sorrow, saying he was “outraged and heartbroken by the murder” of Mosley. He acknowledged her distinguished service in ensuring the safety of the community and stated, “This act of violence impacts our entire law enforcement community and all of New Jersey.”

Mosley’s death marks a tragic loss for the law enforcement community and the residents of Cumberland County. “She will be missed more than words can detail, but she will never be forgotten by her CCPO family,” said Webb-McRae.
