Artem Chigvintsev, a professional dancer known for his performances on “Dancing with the Stars,” has been arrested on charges of felony domestic violence, according to jail records from Napa County, California.
The 42-year-old was taken into custody Thursday morning shortly before 10 a.m. and charged under California Penal Code 273.5(a), which prohibits causing injury to a spouse, cohabitant, or fellow parent in an act of domestic violence.
Jail records indicate that Chigvintsev’s bail was set at $25,000.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Department released Chigvintsev’s mugshot and reported to Media that they received a call around 10 a.m. regarding a domestic violence incident in Yountville. Deputies responded promptly, arresting Chigvintsev without resistance and booking him at the Napa County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence.
Chigvintsev was released on bail around 2:15 p.m. PT and is no longer in custody. According to sheriff’s deputies, he cooperated throughout the process.
While the Sheriff’s Department has not disclosed the identity of the alleged victim, they informed ABC News that the individual is being given time to process the situation before providing further information to detectives. The alleged victim has reportedly been cooperative in initial discussions with deputies.
Chigvintsev is married to former WWE wrestler Nikki Garcia, but it is unclear who the alleged victim is. The couple has a 4-year-old son, Matteo.
Chigvintsev, originally from Russia, has competed in 12 seasons of “Dancing with the Stars.” He won the Mirrorball Trophy in season 29 with “Bachelorette” alum Kaitlyn Bristowe and most recently participated in season 32 with “Bachelorette” alum Charity Lawson, finishing in fourth place.
Chigvintsev and Garcia, who competed together on season 25 of “Dancing with the Stars,” married in August 2022. Just days before the arrest, the couple celebrated their second wedding anniversary. Garcia shared a video on Instagram of their wedding day, set to the song “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” reflecting on their love story and expressing her feelings for Chigvintsev.
Chigvintsev also marked the occasion with an Instagram post featuring wedding photos, captioning it, “Happy anniversary my love, can’t see my life without you. You are my everything.”
