One migrant was killed, and eight others were injured when unidentified attackers opened fire on their vehicle in northern Mexico, authorities reported on Monday.
The deceased migrant was a young boy from southern Mexico, while the injured included individuals from Mexico, Ecuador, and Africa, according to officials.
The incident occurred on Sunday in Tubutama, a township located approximately 47 miles (75 kilometers) south of Sasabe, near the Arizona border, as stated by prosecutors in the northern state of Sonora.

While no motive has been officially provided, the region has experienced violence linked to clashes between rival gangs of migrant smugglers, who are often associated with warring drug cartels.
In Mexico, cartels frequently extort smugglers transporting migrants through their territories. Failure to pay these demands can sometimes result in attacks on the migrants.
