A major fire broke out in an apartment building in East London early Monday, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky and resulting in two people being hospitalized.
The London Fire Brigade reported that the fire was first reported at 2:44 a.m., and it quickly spread, affecting the entire building, including scaffolding around the structure and the roof.
The building was evacuated, and a large-scale search and rescue operation is currently underway. According to the London Ambulance Service, four people were treated at the scene, and two were transported to the hospital for further medical care.

Around 40 fire engines and approximately 225 firefighters responded to the scene, where the building houses both residential and commercial units. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
