U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested a leader of a notorious Peruvian gang linked to 23 murders in Peru on Thursday, according to the agency.
Gianfranco Torres-Navarro was taken into custody in Endicott, New York, during a “targeted operation,” a source with knowledge of the operation reported.
Local authorities in Peru identify Torres-Navarro as the alleged leader of “Los Killers,” a violent gang.
“Gianfranco Torres-Navarro represents a serious threat to our communities, and we will not allow New York to become a refuge for dangerous noncitizens,” stated Thomas P. Brophy, Enforcement and Removal Operations Buffalo Field Office Director. “Kudos to our ERO Buffalo officers for successfully apprehending this individual.”
Torres-Navarro, 38, entered the U.S. near Roma, Texas, on May 16. Authorities were alerted a month ago that he was wanted in Peru for multiple murders.
He is currently detained at a federal detention center in Batavia, New York.
