The suspect for the University of Virginia shooting is now in custody.
3 Virginia football players shot inside the school bus when they were returning from their field trip. The suspect opened fire at them.
The names of the victims are Devin Chandler, D’Sean Perry, and Lavel Davis.
Chandler and Perry died on the scene but Davis was taken to the hospital then, later died due to the severity of his wounds.
Also two students who are also passengers of the school bus were injured and taken to the hospital.
After the shooting incident, the school officials warned the student to keep safe and hide while the check
The suspect is identified as Christopher Darnell Jones, 22 years old. He was being held at Charlottesville, VA school for the shooting incident.
Jones was part of the team back in 2018, but was flagged as a threat in 2022 for his comment of possessing a gun.
However, the investigation was closed as no one saw evidence of Jones owning a gun.
Sadly, the threat unfolded into a more serious incident. Jones was apprehended on campus Monday morning. He is in custody facing three counts of second-degree murder and three counts of using a handgun in commission of a felony.
University President Jim Ryan wrote a letter posted on social media stating, “This is a message any leader hopes never to have to send, and I am devastated that this violence has visited the University of Virginia.”
He canceled classes for the day.
The shooting is one of a series that have been occurring in colleges and schools across the country. There is currently a debate over the Second Amendment which guarantees the right to bear arms.
