Local authorities in Sacramento County, California, reported that a 53-year-old man and his son were apprehended on Sunday after an incident where a child was fatally shot by the 10-year-old. The heartbreaking occurrence happened when the boy obtained a stolen gun from his father’s car.
On Saturday afternoon, the Foothill Farms area witnessed an incident reported by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. As per their report, a father had sent his son to fetch cigarettes from their car when the boy stumbled upon a gun. Excitedly showing it off to someone nearby resulted in one shot being fired that struck and injured another person present on site before fleeing up to find refuge at some adjacent apartment buildings.
The young victim was found by deputies with grave head and neck wounds. Although the deputies attempted immediate CPR and other emergency measures, along with subsequent intervention from Sacramento Metro Fire Department first responders, the child could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to the sheriff’s office, it is believed that Arkete Davis’ father, who is 53 years old, attempted to dispose of the firearm by concealing it in a waste bin. The weapon was reported as stolen.
According to relatives, Keith “KJ” Frierson has been identified as the deceased child.
As the shooter is a minor, their identity remains undisclosed. However, they have been apprehended under suspicion of committing murder. According to records from an inmate facility, Davis – presumed to be the father – has also received multiple charges that include possessing a firearm as a convicted felon; improperly storing firearms; carrying loaded stolen guns within his vehicle; endangering minors, and aiding in criminal activities as accomplice.
At present, it is uncertain whether the suspects have secured legal counsel. The Sacramento County Public Defender’s Office has not made any statements regarding this matter.

Davis is currently in custody with bail set at $500,000, and he’s scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. The underage suspect is being held at the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility while awaiting a determination of his court dates.

Juveniles in Sacramento County are required to be charged within 48 hours of arrest or detention. Despite the fact that minors aren’t subjected to bail, they may still be released into the care of their parents or legal guardians.
