An Ex-Marine, Chance Brannon, pleaded guilty in connection to the 2022 firebombing attack on a Planned Parenthood clinic in California. Brannon, then an active-duty Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, was involved in the Molotov cocktail assault on the Costa Mesa clinic. While no injuries occurred during the March 13, 2022, incident, the building sustained burn damage, forcing the rescheduling of approximately 30 appointments.
Federal prosecutors revealed that Brannon discussed unexecuted plans for additional attacks, including targeting another Planned Parenthood facility and contemplating a race war by attacking a power substation. In possession of a rifle with a disturbing message and a thumb drive containing content related to the Christchurch white supremacist mass shooting, Brannon exemplifies the threat of domestic extremism, according to U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada.

Brannon, arrested in June, pleaded guilty to charges such as conspiracy, malicious destruction of property, possession of an unregistered destructive device, and intentional damage to a reproductive health services facility. Two other individuals charged in the attack, Tibet Ergul and Xavier Batten, have pleaded not guilty. Brannon’s attorney, Kate Corrigan, stated that he is eager to move past this chapter of his life. Mandatory minimum sentences of five years in prison apply to two of the charges in the case.
