Authorities in North Carolina responded to a report of gunfire on Sunday, discovering a grim scene where four individuals had been fatally shot at what appeared to be a makeshift campsite for homeless individuals.
Sampson County Sheriff’s Capt. Eric Pope informed media that a preliminary examination of the crime scene suggested that an individual had taken the lives of three people before ultimately turning the weapon on themselves.
The lifeless bodies of two men and two women were discovered near a tent situated at the terminus of a private road marred by substantial potholes close to Autryville.
As the investigation unfolds, the identities of the victims remain undisclosed. Pope noted that investigators are diligently gathering evidence to piece together the sequence of events leading to the tragic shootings.
