Lottery Winner Sues Child’s Mother to Preserve Anonymity and Enforce Nondisclosure Agreement

A man who secured one of the largest lottery jackpots in U.S. history is taking legal action against the mother of his child, aiming to safeguard his anonymity through a federal lawsuit.

Having won an astounding $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot earlier this year by purchasing a lottery ticket in Lebanon, Maine, the man has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Portland, alleging that the child’s mother breached a nondisclosure agreement. According to court documents, the complaint asserts that she violated the agreement by “directly or indirectly disclosing protected subject matter” related to his lottery winnings.

Both the lottery winner and the defendant are identified only by pseudonyms in the court papers. The complaint reveals that the winner resides in Maine, while the defendant is located in Massachusetts. The lawsuit specifies that the defendant has until December 6 to respond.

While no attorney for the defendant is listed in records, Gregory Brown from Knoxville, Tennessee, represents the lottery winner. Brown declined to comment on the lawsuit, emphasizing that neither he nor his client would discuss the matter.

The legal complaint outlines that the winner and the defendant entered into a nondisclosure agreement shortly after the lottery ticket purchase. Seeking an injunction from a judge, the winner also aims for a minimum of $100,000 in damages, as outlined in the lawsuit.
