Bibiana Mendiola Bocanegra has been identified as the woman who tragically fell into Boulder Creek on Thursday, according to officials from the Boulder County Coroner’s Office. The cause and manner of her death are currently under investigation.

The Boulder Police Department issued a press release stating that a 48-year-old woman lost her life after being rescued from Boulder Creek last week. Multiple witnesses observed the woman struggling in the water around 3:31 p.m. last Thursday.

Upon receiving the reports, a search and rescue team promptly arrived at the scene and searched various points along the creek. However, before their arrival, bystanders managed to pull the woman to the southern side bank of the creek. They immediately initiated CPR.

Firefighters bravely entered the water to transport the woman to the northern side of the creek, where she was then rushed to the hospital by ambulance in critical condition.

Sadly, the woman passed away over the weekend. Further information suggests that she entered the creek to assist a family member and was swept away by strong currents.

This incident marks the 13th confirmed water-related death in Colorado this year. Additionally, there is a presumed water death and an unconfirmed death, as reported by Colorado Parks and Wildlife on Saturday, which are not yet included in the official count. Residents of Colorado have undoubtedly noticed a significant increase in water-related fatalities this spring, with the number of deaths approaching last year’s record-breaking count for the same period.

With Colorado’s waterways experiencing swollen conditions due to melting snowpack and abundant precipitation, it is essential to exercise caution when in their vicinity to ensure safety. Wearing a life jacket is highly recommended for anyone in or around the water in Colorado.
