The tragic discovery was made in Gudauri, a renowned ski resort located approximately 75 miles north of Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital city, near the Russian border.

Discovery and Initial Findings
The Mtskheta-Mtianeti Police Department, part of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, confirmed the victims were found in the resting area on the second floor of an Indian restaurant at the resort.
“In the resting area on the second floor of the Indian restaurant located in Gudauri, the bodies of 12 people employed in the same facility were found,” officials stated. “At the initial inspection, no signs of body injuries or signs of violence were detected.”

Preliminary Investigation
Authorities revealed that a power generator had been improperly placed in a closed indoor space near some bedrooms, raising concerns of carbon monoxide poisoning. The deaths are being investigated under Article 116 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to negligent manslaughter.
Of the 12 victims, 11 were foreign nationals, and one was a Georgian citizen.
