Ryan Carson Stabbed to Death in Tragic New York City Attack
New York City authorities are on the hunt for a suspect in the shocking murder of Ryan Carson, a 32-year-old social justice advocate, who was brutally stabbed multiple times near a bus stop in Brooklyn early Monday.
The horrifying incident unfolded shortly before 4 a.m., as Ryan Carson and his girlfriend were returning home from a wedding. The attack, described as unprovoked, claimed Carson’s life as he suffered fatal stab wounds to the chest.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) released a photograph of an unidentified male suspect being sought in connection with the murder. As of Tuesday night, no arrests had been made, according to a police spokesperson.
Ryan Carson was widely known for his activism and advocacy work. He had been a dedicated campaign organizer for the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), a non-partisan political organization focused on waste policy. Carson was also the driving force behind the “No OD NY” campaign, which aimed to raise awareness about overdose prevention centers.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed his deep sorrow at Carson’s murder, calling it “unthinkable.” He pledged that the NYPD would relentlessly pursue justice for the victim, emphasizing, “He advocated tirelessly for others, and his giving spirit was a buoy to all.”
Carson’s journey with NYPIRG began during his time as a student at Pratt Institute. The organization remembered him fondly as a beloved staffer, colleague, and friend. He was described as a creative, talented, and unwavering advocate for both students and environmental causes, with an engaging personality and a profound commitment to the issues he championed.
Friends, colleagues, and New York politicians paid tribute to Carson, describing him as a passionate social justice advocate. NYPIRG’s executive director, Blair Horner, lamented the tragic loss, remarking that “a life full of promise is snuffed out,” leaving the world a sadder place.

New York State Sen. Julia Salazar expressed shock and sadness over Carson’s untimely death, vowing to continue his life’s work, which centered on harm reduction, humane drug policy, and creating a more compassionate society.
