Authorities are searching for a suspect who fatally stabbed a King County Metro bus driver during a violent altercation early Wednesday morning in Seattle.

Richard Sitzlack, 53, has been identified as the primary suspect in the killing. Officials said Sitzlack is known to frequent the University of Washington district and downtown Seattle.

Details of the Attack

The victim, identified as 59-year-old Shawn Yim, was stabbed multiple times in the chest following a physical altercation with a passenger on his bus around 3 a.m. The incident occurred near the University of Washington campus.

After the attack, Yim exited the bus but collapsed a short distance away due to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The suspect fled the area immediately after the stabbing, and a subsequent K9 search was unsuccessful, officials reported.

Police described Sitzlack as a 6-foot-5 male, weighing 195 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Union Calls for Action

Greg Woodfill, president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, condemned the violent act during a press conference on Wednesday.

“We are not going to sit idly by while our members are murdered,” Woodfill stated. “I don’t have all the answers, but I do know we need a more secure area for the transit operator, and we need more dedicated Metro transit police officers.”

Woodfill urged immediate action, expressing the union’s collective grief and shock.

“We need to take action now,” he added. “We are all in shock.”

County Executive Condemns the Violence

King County Executive Dow Constantine also denounced the attack during the press conference, calling it an unacceptable act of violence against a public servant.
