The Detroit police department stated on Sunday that there is no evidence to suggest that the fatal stabbing of Samantha Woll, the president of a Detroit synagogue, is linked to antisemitism. Woll, 40, was discovered with stab wounds outside her home on Saturday morning, and the investigation into her death is ongoing, as confirmed by Detroit Police Chief James E. White in a statement. White emphasized, “No evidence has surfaced suggesting that this crime was motivated by antisemitism.”

Multiple sources within law enforcement involved in the investigation have echoed this sentiment, noting that there was no sign of forced entry into Woll’s home, no defensive wounds on her body, and that an Israeli flag inside the residence appeared undisturbed.

A 911 call reported an unresponsive person lying on the ground at Woll’s residence on Saturday morning. When police arrived, they found Woll with multiple stab wounds and a trail of blood leading to her home.

White has assured the public that the investigation is ongoing and that the Detroit Police Department is collaborating with the FBI to analyze the available information and establish a timeline leading to Woll’s death. Interviews are being conducted with individuals who may possess information vital to the investigation.

White also requested patience from the community, emphasizing, “Everything that can be done to bring this matter to closure is being called into service.”

Samantha Woll had been the leader of the congregation at the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue. Her funeral service took place on Sunday, where mourners paid tribute to her dedication to peace and her role as a leader in her community.

Woll had previous ties to the Michigan Democratic Party. She worked for Representative Elissa Slotkin and was part of the re-election campaign for the state’s Attorney General, Dana Nessel.

Elissa Slotkin praised Woll’s commitment and service, stating, “She did for our team as Deputy District Director what came so naturally to her: helping others & serving constituents.” Slotkin added that Woll had dedicated her life to fostering understanding across faiths and bringing light in times of darkness.
