Mystee Ipong recently made an intriguing discovery in her 200-year-old home’s eerie basement: a hidden, bricked-up room, which she promptly shared with her TikTok followers to unravel the mystery.
The discovery unfolded when Ipong and her partner, who had moved into the historic house in upstate New York in June, noticed a puzzling leak in the basement. The water seemed to be seeping from under a wall.
In a TikTok video that garnered 2.8 million views, Ipong showed viewers the suspicious wall, pointing out the newer bricks that formed what once was a doorway, a detail surprisingly overlooked in previous home inspections.
Despite her reluctance, Ipong narrated a clip of her husband dismantling the brick wall, suspecting that a hidden pipe behind it might be the leak’s source. Prior to their excavation, the couple saged the area for good vibes.
However, their efforts hit a snag when they found the room filled with rocks, complicating their entry into the hidden space.
Ipong’s TikTok followers speculated that the house, located in Clarkson, New York, might have historical significance, perhaps even a connection to the Underground Railroad, which aided enslaved individuals in their journey to freedom.
Further research by the couple indicated that a former owner, Lucy Blodgett, might have had links to the Underground Railroad, though it’s still uncertain if the house was part of the historical network or the reason behind the room’s sealing.

TikTok users expressed caution, with some suggesting that the room could be integral to the house’s structural integrity. Concerns were raised that disturbing it might lead to instability, especially if it’s supporting important features like a garage above. Others recommended professional evaluation before proceeding further.
