Music fans around the world were stunned to learn of the untimely passing of Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins on Friday March, 25th. Not only did the Foo Fighters have a tour they were in the middle of, but they also just recently released a new album titled Dream Widow. To say the loss of the star drummer left a hole in the music world would be a dramatic understatement, as tributes to the band have poured in left and right.
While the news of Hawkins’ untimely demise devastated fans, those who were lucky enough to see him perform in person will always cherish those memories. One lucky fan had the opportunity of a lifetime with Hawkins just days before his passing, resulting in a picture that has since gone viral. Young drummer Emma Sofia and her father Julius Peralta found out that the Foo Fighters would be staying in the Sheraton Hotel in Asuncion in Paraguay prior to their show there on March 22. They took her drum kit and played outside of the hotel in hopes of luring Hawkins from his room. Their plan worked thanks to some help in the form of a singalong of Nirvana’s famous “In Bloom.”

After they met, Emma uploaded the photo onto her Instagram with the caption, “Dreams come true.” Three days later, Hawkins would be found dead in his hotel room in Columbia at the age of 50. Emma’s parents explained online that they were hoping to spare her from “a lot of pain” before her Friday night debut performance by keeping the news about Hawkins’ passing from her. As tragic as Hawkins’ passing is to fans like Emma, she’ll always treasure being able to meet her hero face to face.
