A 14-year-old boy was the victim of a shark attack on Wednesday in Daytona Beach, Florida, according to local authorities. The teen, visiting from Missouri, was standing in knee-deep water when a shark bit his left foot, as reported by Volusia County Beach Ocean Rescue.
He was taken to the hospital, after the shark attack, where his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening. This incident is the fourth shark bite reported in Volusia County this month.
Earlier this week, another 14-year-old boy was bitten on the right calf during a junior lifeguard camp at Ponce Inlet. Aaron Jenkins, deputy chief of Volusia County Beach Safety, stated that the boy suffered non-life-threatening lacerations and was hospitalized.
Witnesses identified the shark as a blacktip, which is common in the area, Jenkins noted. On July 4, a 21-year-old man from Ohio was bitten on the foot while playing football in knee-deep water. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
“It felt like my foot was being stabbed,” the 21-year-old victim, Connor Baker, recounted. “I tried to get to shore as quickly as possible.”
