While that may be a selling point for most gamers, the VR pioneers may need to raise the stakes for the players. The founder of Oculus, now a part of Meta, Palmer Luckey, revealed to Vice’s Motherboard that the new VR headset he’s been working on kills players that lose in the game.

The way it works is harrowing. Players put their NeveGear virtual reality headsets on, then open the game called Sword Art Online. The game based on a Japanese novel and anime, makes players fight through a 100-floor dungeon with the end goal of escaping the virtual world of a mad scientist.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg that sets this game apart. This virtual reality headset has three explosive charge modules above the gaming screen aimed at the player’s head. If the player loses their life in the game while completing the mission, the microwave emitter goes off, then eviscerating the gamer’s head.
