A Florida man had an odd request when he called the police in Hernando County, as he was quite concerned about the drugs he had recently purchased, officials said.
According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, Thomas Eugene Colucci called their office because he had a pressing concern: are these illegal drugs I recently purchased legit?
The 41-year-old man decided to call 9-1-1, and he asked if the police could come to his residence and test the methamphetamine he just bought from someone at a bar, police said. How much did this man have before he decided that was a good phone call to make?
He told authorities that he tested the drugs himself, but he was worried that they may be bath salts because they weren’t giving him the high he is used to. Police said that Colucci told them he was an “experienced drug user” and he had used meth before and because of that, he “knew what it should feel like.”
The police arrived, and the man showed police two small baggies containing a white crystal-like substance. He even handed the drugs over to the officers at the scene.
Colucci was just trying to look out for others, he claimed. He not only wanted to know if his drugs were real, but he wanted to make sure others wouldn’t be buying “fake” drugs, police said.
He told police that he wanted to “put the person in trouble” for selling it to him, but when police questioned him regarding the seller, Colucci could not give them any details about who he bought them from.
An officer performed a field test on a sample of the drugs Colucci gave them and, indeed, it tested positive for meth. After the results were determined, Colucci was put in cuffs and arrested. This is when he started to experience chest pains, but he was later cleared by a doctor.
Colucci was taken to jail and charged with possession of methamphetamine and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, officials said. He was later released after posting $7,000 bail.
Meanwhile, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has a new tactic to catch these culprits, as they recently shared on social media, “If you, or someone you know, have doubts about the authenticity of any illegal narcotics you have on-hand or have obtained from another person, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to provide this service, FREE of charge.”
