Chaotic Shooting in NYC Hospital Leaves Victim Injured; ER Left in Lockdown

Tension grew at Jacobi Medical Center, a New York City Hospital, on Tuesday, when a yet-to-be-identified gunman shot a patient in the Hospital’s waiting room. The shooting incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the Morris Park section of the Bronx.
According to the video footage obtained by NBC New York, the suspect came in a black hoodie and was standing at a desk. Shortly after, he pulled a gun and charged at the victim (a man in a red jacket), shooting several times, with others seated nearby.
It would have been more disastrous if any life was lost, but the victim was only struck once in the arm, and it appeared he was the only one that got injured, while others scrambled to take cover.
The waiting room floor was covered with blood trails as the victim struggled to find help before being taken to the operating room. Reports indicate that the victim is expected to recover.
The hospital was also temporarily locked down as a precautionary measure to ensure staff and patient safety and to restore normalcy. Although the shooting was perceived as an isolated incident, sources could confirm that both the suspect and victim knew each other.
The Hospital also released a statement recounting the incident. The statement read, “In the early part of the afternoon, an individual walked into our hospital’s emergency department, shooting another individual in the waiting room. This was a cowardly act in a space where New Yorkers come for treatment and care. Our health care heroes swiftly took care of the victim and took action to protect the other patients in the waiting room. Our primary concern remains caring for patients and ensuring the safety of our staff, and we are committed to working closely with the NYPD as they conduct their investigation.”
Recent reports claim that the alleged shooter has been identified as Keber Martinez, 25 years old. The hospital record book for signing in to receive treatments helped to track him down. He has been charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and illegal firearm possession.
Sources from the NYPD claimed that Martinez was arrested after a distress 911 call from her sister, reporting that her brother had a gun, was acting erratically, and heard voices. He’s now in custody, awaiting trial, while the victim is believed to be recovering.
The shooting incident in the hospital came four and half years after a similar situation occurred at another medical facility in the borough, Bronx Lebanon Hospital.
