A 10-year-old boy shot his mother dead for not buying him a virtual reality headset. He then logged into her account and ordered it himself the next day.
The suspect is charged as an adult with first-degree reckless homicide, and will be staying at a juvenile detention facility.
The boy claims he got the weapon from his mother’s belongings and accidentally shot it at his mother on Nov. 21. However, the relatives are not satisfied with the boy’s answer, which led to the arrest.
Police questioned the suspect, and he confessed that he intentionally pointed the gun to shoot and kill his mother. After the incident, he used the account of his mother to buy the Oculus Virtual Reality Headset he wanted and assaulted his younger cousin too.
His aunt, who was with him the day after the killing, reported that the boy acted without empathy or compassion.
It was reported that the boy had previously shown disturbing behavior when he was 4 years old. He swung a puppy by its tail before, and just six months ago, he set a balloon on fire, causing an explosion.
During a police interview, the boy stated that he aimed the gun at his mother and meant to shoot the wall to “scare her.” But he ended up shooting her when she walked in front of him.
He told law enforcement that he got the semi-automatic Glock 43 from a lock box in his mother’s bedroom and shot her because she woke him up at 6 AM instead of 6:30 AM and refused to let him purchase the virtual reality set he wanted on Amazon.
