AUGUSTA, Ga. — A Georgia National Guard soldier appeared in federal court on Monday, charged with murder following a fatal weekend shooting that triggered a lockdown at Fort Eisenhower, a U.S. Army post in Augusta.

Natravien Landry, 25, was formally charged during his initial court appearance before a federal magistrate judge in Augusta, according to U.S. District Court records. The charges stem from the Saturday morning incident at a home on Fort Eisenhower, where Landry served as part of a National Guard transportation unit.

Following the shooting, Landry fled the scene in a car. He was later apprehended by sheriff’s deputies on Saturday in Meriwether County, approximately 180 miles (290 kilometers) from Fort Eisenhower.
